Resources are low, water shortages are abundant and the perception of golf course environmental sustainability is mixed. While all of this is fact, golf and being “green” are hardly at odds.
The SCGA, along with its allied associations, is dedicated to supporting continued education and environmental innovations in the game. From its relationship with the University of California—Riverside Turfgrass Research Program to its involvement with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America’s Southern California sections, the California Alliance for Golf, and other organizations, the SCGA demonstrates that it cares about dispelling the myths and promoting the positive impacts that golf courses provide.
One step is the creation of an SCGA Green Task Force. Another is spotlighting Southland golf courses and companies that are decreasing cost and usage and increasing sustainability. From solar-powered golf carts to reducing turf and irrigation requirements, Southland courses are doing great things, and the SCGA is proud to be a part of it.
